- Emerald City turns even greener
Mayor Gavin Newsom proposed strict new green building guidelines designed to give San Francisco the nation's greenest skyline.
- Indulging the sin of emissions
Mayor Newsom is moving to put San Francisco into the business of helping industry and consumers balance their impact on global warming by creating a fund to bankroll San Francisco-based initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
- More sun for everyone
A proposed loan and subsidy program will help San Francisco homeowners and businesses make the city’s goal of 10,000 solar roofs a reality.
- Greasing the city’s wheels
Thanks to a concerted effort across city departments, the municipal fleet of diesel-powered vehicles was converted to biodiesel—beating the Mayor’s deadline by a month. And soon, they’ll run on biodiesel made from grease and oils collected from SF restaurants.
- Recycling and environmental justice grants
The Environment Department is offering over $2 million in grants for innovative community projects in the areas of zero waste, used motor oil recycling, and environmental justice.
