Tour the Top Trees - this Saturday |
Join SF Environment and Friends of the Urban Forest on a tour of San Francisco's officially recognized Landmark Trees. From the stately to the small, our biodiesel bus will tour the trees that have had the biggest impact on San Francisco. The tour is Saturday, August 22 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm and will visit 10 different sites. Meet us at the eucalyptus trees on the corner of 1801 Bush Street. No RSVP is required for this free event, but space on the tour bus is limited, so make sure you arrive early! For more information contact meiling.hui@sfgov.org. |

The Ugly Truth about Dry Cleaning |
All dry cleaners in California will soon be required to phase out the use of "perc," an extremely toxic chemical solvent. It's about time! The question is, what technology will they choose to replace it?
Some SF cleaners have already switched to professional wet cleaning, an effective environmentally-friendly method. If your favorite cleaner isn't on this list, tell them that if they really "heart" their customers (and their workers, and the planet), they won't be fooled by "greenwashing" and will switch to a truly green alternative.
Learn about various dry cleaning alternatives and their impacts, and check back soon for a listing of all SF cleaners and the technology they use. |

Attn Teachers: Free Field Trips! |
Ever wonder what happens to all the paper, bottles and cans we recycle? Or how food scraps magically turn into rich garden compost? Or how to make cool art out of stuff we throw away? The SF Environment School Education program is offering field trips to SF public and private schools, grades 2-12. Apply today - the deadline is September 5! And please pass this along to any SF teachers you know. |

Have You Seen the Green (Box)?
|
As part of our "Great Recycling Moments" campaign, we've put special pizza boxes and take-out containers in some of your favorite restaurants to remind you that they can be composted. If you see one, please snap a pic and let us know on Facebook or Twitter (@SFenvironment)! Remember, all food-soiled paper can be placed in your green cart. To learn more, visit RecyclingMoments.org. |
