• Good things happen in the dark
For one full hour -- between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Oct. 20 – Lights Out San Francisco asks the people of this city to turn off all unnecessary lights as a way to reduce carbon emissions and preserve natural resources. Organizers estimate that this simple act alone will reduce the day’s energy use by 15 percent.

  • Cash for conservation
A new contest is offering cash prizes for teams of San Franciscans who use the least amount of energy. The contest, called SF Climate Challenge, begins October 25.

  • Local businesses fight global warming
California's fight against global warming need not destroy local businesses. Instead, those businesses have more options than they realize for cutting their greenhouse gas emissions. And many of those options can save cash.

  • Warm buzz in activist hive
Neighborhood Empowerment Network logo The Neighborhood Empowerment Network got off to a positive start with its first Summit at the Bill Graham Civic. Next phases will include workshops and trainings in the city's diverse nieghborhoods. Join the network to build community and help your nieghbors tackle everything from earthquake preparedness to global warming.
