SF Approved Reduced Risk Pesticides for City-Owned Properties

For compliance with the US Green Building Council's LEED-EB O&M requirements on "least-hazardous pesticides," first find least hazardous (Tier III) pesticides in the SF Pesticide Hazard Screening List. If your product is NOT in that List, review your product using criteria in the SF Pesticide Hazard Screening Protocol . The Pesticide Action Network database is particularly useful for this purpose.

San Francisco places strict limitations on the kinds of pesticides that may be used on its properties (see SF Environment Code, Chapter 3). The Department of the Environment works closely with other City departments to create and maintain a list of acceptable pesticides, the SF Approved Reduced-Risk Pesticide List (sorted by product name) and Who to Contact to Comply with the IPM Ordinance. Only products on this list may be used on lands owned by or leased from the City, unless an exemption is granted by the Department's IPM Program Manager. Chemical pesticides should be used only after all preventive and non-chemical control options have been exhausted.

Every product in the SF Reduced-Risk Pesticide List has been screened using the SF Pesticide Hazard Screening Protocol, and has been reviewed by the SF IPM Technical Advisory Committee (IPM TAC) and a public hearing. The IPM TAC considers product hazards, potential for exposure, and existence of safer alternatives before placing products on the SF Reduced-Risk Pesticide List.
