For RESIDENTS

San Francisco residents have several free and convenient options to safely recycle and dispose of their hazardous materials:

  • Home Collection Service: This service is available by appointment for residents who have a variety of hazardous waste/toxic products. Call SF Recycling & Disposal at (415) 330-1300 to schedule an appointment. You must be home during the time of the pick-up to take advantage of this service.

  • Neighborhood Drop-Off Sites: There are more than one hundred retail and nonprofit establishments that serve as convenient drop-off locations for a variety of toxic household products including batteries, fluorescent lights, latex paint, used motor oil and filters, needles and syringes, and mercury thermometers. To find a convenient drop-off location near you, conduct a zip-code search in our EcoFinder. Or download our "Wonder Waste" guide to drop-off sites (below).

  • Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Facility: Use this option if you have a variety of hazardous waste/toxic products. The facility is open year-round, but with limited days and hours. Make sure to read the special instructions before going to the facility.
