Bicycling

Due to our temperate climate, it's possible to bicycle around San Francisco all year-round! With that in mind, the City and its partners have plenty of programs and guides that help to make San Francisco one of the premiere bicycling cities.
General Information:
- San Francisco Bike Map & Walking Guide: shows all the bicycle routes, paths, and lanes in the city, including hill grades so riders can avoid the steepest ones.
- San Francisco Bicycle Guide: Provides a complete overview of how to bike in the city, providing a range of information from where to ride in traffic lanes to how to ride safely at night.
- Bicycle Safety: Information on the Coexist Campaign between the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and the San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic.
- Caltrans Bicycle Resources: Provides information on bike lanes and crossing bridges via bicycle shuttles and other regional bicycle data.
- 511 Bicycling Resource Guide: A great Bay Area resource that provide information regarding public transit buses that are equipped with bicycle racks.
- Request a Rack Program by the Department of Parking and Traffic: Will install a bike rack near you if it's needed.
Bicycle Programs for City & County of San Francisco Employees
The City offers employees the following 2 bicycle programs:
- The City Bicycle Fleet: Instead of driving from one meeting to another, employees can conduct work-related business by pedaling around San Francisco, helping reduce vehicle trips and greenhouse gas emissions. Individuals or departments can sign up to receive a free bicycle, helmet, u-lock, and a one-year maintenance plan. If you are interested in obtaining a bicycle, please call Adeline Canez at (415) 355-3729.
- The City Hall Bicycle Room: For employees who work at or near the City Hall, there is a secure bike room available to store bicycle and personal items for day use only. Lockers and showers are also available. Please contact Adeline Canez at (415) 355-3729 for more information.
Bicycle Commuter Benefits
Starting January 1, 2009, the Federal Tax Code 132(f) expanded to allow up to $20/month for bicycle commuters. For more information, please visit the IRS website.
Contact us at (415) 355-3727 for more information about bicycling.
