Animals
![]() |
San Francisco is known for its distinctive climate, busy nightlife, and the cultural diversity of its inhabitants. But a rich variety of animals live here, too. Threatened species like snowy plovers and bank swallows nest in the bluffs and dunes of Ocean Beach, California sea lions hang out at Fisherman's Wharf, and scores of species make their home in Golden Gate Park: from rabbits and frogs to a herd of bisonand even the occasional coyote. We're committed to protecting native species and promoting biodiversity, but we're also fans of domestic animals, providing veterinary care for pets of the homeless and helping prepare pets for survival in the case of disaster.
