How do I recycle household batteries?

How do I safely dispose of household batteries?

Batteries are hazardous and must NOT go in any trash, recycling, or composting bin. Disposal options vary based on your housing type.

  • Single family home or small multifamily buildings (under six units): Put household batteries into a clear plastic bag and place on top of your black bin on collection day.
  • Multifamily buildings with six units or more: Your building manager can order a free battery collection bucket by contacting Recology. Recology will deliver the orange battery recycling bucket to your building.

Single-Family Homes and Multifamily Buildings Smaller Than Six Units
