Build It Green Home Tour

(August 29, 2007)

See green-built homes up close on September 23 tour

Building on the huge success of previous tours in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma and Santa Clara Counties, Build It Green is excited to partner with the San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) to offer the first-ever Build It Green Home Tour in San Francisco.

On Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., seven homeowners will open their doors and introduce attendees to green building techniques and products. From homes in the Richmond District to the Mission District, the tour covers the spectrum: from remodels to newly built residences.

This innovative tour showcases residences built and remodeled utilizing sustainable, durable products and practices that deliver high quality, healthy, and comfortable homes.

The Build It Green Home Tour will demonstrate the techniques, technologies, and materials used to build and remodel the homes on the tour, and enable attendees to get an up close, hands-on look at successful green building.

From solar photovoltaic systems to recycled lumber and chemical-free insulation and paints, the homes showcase a wide range of techniques and materials, including a wind turbine, a grey water system and two green 'living' roofs. Speak with homeowners, builders and designers about the materials they chose, installation dos and don'ts, and lessons learned.

And, for the first time, the Build It Green Home Tour will have an organized bike ride traveling to several of the homes. Teaming with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, bicyclists can take the tour by pedaling from home to home. Build It Green encourages you to keep your car at home and hop on a bike for the tour and/or take public transit. Visit www.sfbike.org for more information on the bike tour.
