Public Comment
Public comment will be taken on each agenda item involving discussion or action before the Commission takes action on that item. The public is asked to wait for the particular agenda item before making a comment on that item. When the moderator announces that the Commission is taking public comment, members of the public can stand before the Commission and be called forward. Each member of the public may address the Commission for up to three minutes, unless otherwise announced by the President.
Remote public comment will not be allowed, except as accommodation for a disability. To obtain access to remote public comment options as accommodation for a disability, please contact the Senior Public Affairs Coordinator at (415) 355-3709 or [email protected].
The Brown Act forbids the Commission from taking action or discussing any item or issue not appearing on the posted agenda. This rule applies to issues raised in public comment as well. In response to public comment, not on an agendized item, the Commission is limited to:
1. Briefly responding to statements made or questions posed by members of the public, or
2. Requesting staff to report back on a matter at a subsequent meeting, or
3. Directing staff to place the item or issue on a future agenda (Government Code Section 54954.2(a).)
Please note that personal information, including email addresses, provided to the Commission on the Environment or the Environment Department's policy bodies is subject to disclosure under the California Public Records Act and the San Francisco Sunshine Ordinance, and will not be redacted. Members of the public are not required to provide personal identifying information when communicating with the Commission on the Environment or the Environment Department’s policy bodies. Persons unable to attend the meeting may submit written comments regarding the agenda items above to the Commission before the proceedings begin.
These comments will be included in the official public record and shall be brought to the attention of the Commissioners. Any written comments should be sent to: Public Affairs Assistant Coordinator, 1455 Market St., 13B, San Francisco, CA 94103 by 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to the meeting. (If the Commission meeting falls on a Monday, public comments can be received by 5:00 p.m. on a Friday.) Comments that cannot be delivered to the Public Affairs Assistant Coordinator by that time may be taken directly to the meeting at the location above. When bringing handouts to meetings, please photocopy on both sides of the paper and try to use post-consumer recycled or tree-free paper. In addition, please bring sufficient copies of handouts for the Commissioners, the Public Affairs Assistant Coordinator, and the public.
Disability Access
The Commission on the Environment meeting will be held in-person in Room 408 at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, and broadcast live and captioned on SFGovTV. The meeting location is between Grove and McAllister Streets and is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair-accessible entrances are located on Van Ness Avenue and Grove Street. Please note the wheelchair lift at the Goodlett Place/Polk Street is temporarily not available. After multiple repairs that were followed by additional breakdowns, the wheelchair lift at the Goodlett/Polk entrance is being replaced for improved operation and reliability. We anticipate having a functioning lift after the completion of construction in May 2025. There are elevators and accessible restrooms located on every floor. The closest BART and Muni Metro Station is Civic Center, about three blocks from the meeting location. Accessible Muni lines nearest the meeting location are: 5 Fulton, 19 Polk, 21 Hayes, 27 Bryant, 31 Balboa, 49 Van Ness-Mission, F-Market & Muni Metro (Civic Center Station).
