SF Environment and the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit invite youth from across the Bay Area to learn about environmental careers.
Saturday, November 15th, 2025, 12pm - 2:30pm, San Francisco Department of the Environment 1455 Market Street.
San Francisco, CA – The Bay Area Youth Climate (BAYCS) presents its first Green Careers Fair, connecting youth across the SF Bay Area with environmental professionals across different fields like government, non-profits, and philanthropy. The event is free to all youth, featuring an inspiring keynote speech, panel, and a table fair from 20+ local environmental organizations. By providing visibility to real, diverse pathways—-in everything from business to clean energy to advocacy—we hope to show young people that every career can be a green career. Simultaneously, we hope to inspire and connect passionate students, furthering our mission to create a youth environmental movement.
Hosted in partnership with the San Francisco Environment Department (SF Environment), our event will kick off with keynote speaker Tyrone Jue, Director of SF Environment. Tyrone is a climate and equity leader guiding San Francisco’s path to net-zero by 2040, driving transformative clean-energy, air-quality, and environmental justice initiatives while breaking barriers as the first Chinese American to lead SF Environment! The event will also feature a panel with speakers in fields ranging from environmental law to nonprofit work, and free boba. The fair itself will feature opportunities to learn about environmental careers, potential internships, and employment opportunities.
“We’re proud to co-host the Bay Area Youth Climate Summit’s first Green Careers Fair,” said Tyrone Jue, Director of the San Francisco Environment Department. “Our next generation of young leaders are incredibly concerned about the future of our environment. Introducing them to the blossoming climate technology and advocacy sectors in San Francisco is the best way to ensure they have an opportunity to advance climate action through their professions.”
The last year has been filled with blows to the climate movement: the Trump administration has rolled back important environmental legislation and expanded fossil fuel extraction, accelerating our climate crisis. Reports estimate that almost 90,000 clean energy jobs have been lost as a result. As youth feeling the burden of climate change, we bear the impact of these decisions, and it can feel daunting to head into a work force that feels apathetic to these issues. “Environmental science especially has taken a big hit under the new presidential administration. Whenever I tell people that it's something I want to study, I usually get a few laughs and a "good luck with that!" It's easy to forget that the issues that face the most setbacks are also the ones that we need to fight for the hardest,” BAYCS Member Chiara Andrichak said. This fair carves a vital space for youth in a climate movement that has historically been inaccessible, allowing youth to not only envision climate solutions, but realize career choices that are centered in them.
The Green Careers fair is free and open to all high school students, with free boba offered to students from local boba shop Little Sweet. Boba is offered in reusable boba cups, contributing to SFE’s Bring Your Own Boba Cup campaign.
Since its founding in 2020, BAYCS has mobilized more than 8,000 youth from 230 schools through annual summits, festivals, protests. Led entirely by high school students, BAYCS emphasizes climate optimism, collective action, and peer-to-peer education to counteract isolation and climate apathy. “Since I joined, I’ve developed an interest in pursuing a future in science and climate justice, met some of the coolest people, and uplifted my outlook on the climate crisis,” BAYCS Co-Chair Kate Ozaeta said.
