The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed the Safe Drug Disposal Stewardship Ordinance on March 17, 2015, with an effective date of April 25, 2015.  Providing proper disposal options for leftover, expired, and unwanted drugs helps advance the City's Zero Waste goals and reduce pharmaceutical contamination of water supplies, landfills, and the environment. 

Medicine collection kiosks are operational under the Inmar Intelligence and MED-Project stewardship programs. Inmar and MED-Project are both supplementing the medicine collection kiosk sites with mail-back envelope distribution locations, where San Francisco residents can pick up a free, prepaid standard medicine mail-back envelope (for pill, liquid, and cream medicine formulations). Pre-filled injector products, such as EpiPens©, cannot be disposed in kiosks. Free prepaid mail-back packages for Pre-filled injector products are available at no cost by request online or by calling (844) 633-7765.
