Inspiring the next generation on climate action

SF Environment provides free, year-round environmental education for PK–12 public and independent schools across San Francisco. Through hands-on, experiential learning, students explore climate action, sustainability, and their relationship with the natural world—learning how their actions can make a real difference in their communities.

Our programs connect science standards with cultural and place-based practices, empowering youth to become thoughtful, creative environmental stewards. Each year, the Climate Action Youth Summit brings students together from across the city to share ideas, learn from one another, and turn inspiration into action.

Programs are offered in English, Spanish, and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).

Pheobe the Pheonix

Meet Phoebe the Phoenix

Phoebe the Phoenix is our beloved department mascot. Phoebe was born in 2003, and hails from Canada originally.

We chose the phoenix as our mascot because it’s the historic symbol of San Francisco. It appears on the city flag as a bird rising from the ashes after devastating fires and the 1906 earthquake. And just like the phoenix, San Francisco’s young people are leading the way in rebuilding, reimagining, and renewing our city through climate action, creativity, and resilience.
